Although the best candidates for laser hair removal are those with fair skin and dark hair, the LightSheer diode laser can be effective for darker skin tones. Men and women with grey, white, red, or blonde hair may not benefit from laser hair removal. This is because the pigment in hair absorbs the laser energy, damaging the follicle. Therefore, darker hair with more pigment tends to respond better to the procedure.
Under the direction of board-certified dermatologist Dr. Vince Bertucci, we may suggest that you apply a local anesthetic cream 1 hour before your procedure in order to minimize any discomfort. As your practitioner passes the laser over your treatment area, you may experience a stinging sensation or a feeling of heat. The amount of skin sensitivity depends on the area being treated. Thanks to its dual technologies, treatment with our LightSheer DUET is faster and more comfortable than treatments with older lasers.
After a laser session, it’s not uncommon to see small black dots in the hair follicle, which are actually residual hairs. These typically fall out within 1 to 3 weeks. You should be careful to limit your sun exposure for 4 to 6 weeks, using a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher each day.
Although individual results can and do vary, most people notice fewer, finer hairs after just one procedure. For enhanced results, Dr. Bertucci recommends approximately 4 to 8 sessions every 6 to 8 weeks, depending on your individual circumstances.
