Aging affects everyone in different ways, which is why there is no universal solution. But platelet-rich plasma therapy, sometimes called PRP or a “vampire facelift,” is a good option for Toronto-area men and women in search of a versatile option for safely and quickly treating numerous effects of aging.
Whether as part of a vampire facelift or an enhancement to another facial treatment, PRP therapy at our Woodbridge practice in Vaughan is an excellent way to harness your body’s own power of rejuvenation.
What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma therapy, or PRP for short, is an exciting, innovative, anti-aging treatment that uses your own blood platelets to renew the supple, healthy skin of youth without surgery. It’s indicated to treat the following concerns:
Lost volume related to aging
Laxity and roughness from collagen loss
Enlarged pores, fine lines, wrinkles, and dark under-eye circles
Thinning hair or male-pattern balding
The procedure is safe, versatile, and only minimally invasive, which means that recuperation is straightforward and comfortable.
Get to KnowDr. Bertucci
As a globally renowned, board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Vince Bertucci has devoted his career to enriching the lives of people from all walks of life. Though he is a respected innovator, researcher, and educator, his patients are his highest priority. He welcomes each visitor with an a detailed consultation process and works collaboratively with them to develop a personalized, comprehensive treatment plan.
Platelets are an important component of blood. They help slow bleeding when we’re injured and repair blood vessels and other structures to keep us healthy. They contain special growth factors which stimulate the rejuvenation of our body’s tissues, including the skin.
PRP works by harvesting your body’s own platelets and applying them to the areas that concern you most. Over time, the platelets go to work rebuilding skin for a sustained improvement that’s remarkably well-tolerated. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Vince Bertucci prefers to use a product called SELPHYL® to prepare the platelet-rich plasma and enhance the results of traditional PRP.
In a vampire facelift, Dr. Bertucci injects PRP directly into the skin in areas that need a rejuvenation boost. He may combine these injections with dermal fillers to fill in lines and add extra volume in the cheeks, temples, and more.
Enhancing Microneedling & Laser Treatments
Dr. Bertucci also uses PRP to enhance the results of treatments such as microneedling and Fraxel®. These treatments create tiny channels in the skin that allow the PRP to penetrate deeper, speeding healing times and creating more dramatic results.
Is Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy Right for Me?
PRP is a good option for men and women who are interested in general improvement of the surface and quality of skin without undergoing surgery or other more invasive procedures. Keep in mind that the results of PRP are not permanent—but they are enduring, often lasting up to 18 months.
During your consultation, Dr. Bertucci can help you further understand your eligibility for PRP and potentially recommend alternative treatments, such as injectable fillers or BOTOX COSMETIC®.
During your treatment, a trained member of our team first draws blood from your arm. This is not unlike the process of having your blood drawn during routine medical testing. After drawing a small amount of blood, Dr. Bertucci uses a special technique to separate the red and white blood cells from the platelets, or “liquid gold.” The red and white cells are discarded, and the purified platelets are injected into your primary areas of concern. The entire procedure is brief, typically lasting under an hour, and you can return to your normal activities following your appointment.
What Is Recovery Like After a PRP Treatment?
Although no formal recuperation is required, you may experience some swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, or itching near your injection sites. These are fairly typical symptoms and will resolve themselves without medical intervention.
When Will I See Results After a PRP Treatment?
You’ll begin to see your treated areas appear smoother and softer after 2 to 3 weeks, with results that continue to endure for more than a year. Typically, we recommend a series of treatments in order to create optimal results. During your consultation, Dr. Bertucci will help you better understand your own specific treatment process.
